Chords and improvisation:

Learn to play over typical chords and turnarounds.

Choose with melody Find the root and order of the chords in the exercise, playing rootnote, other chord tones ( third , fifth, etc ) or use a scale. 

Choose without melody Try to play phrases, that defines the chord.
